1. What cookies are
1.1. Cookies are small text files that websites place on the User's device (computer, tablet or mobile phone) when they visit. They allow the website to work properly, to remember preferences, or to collect information about how it is used.
1.2. Cookies may be first-party, placed by the finova.pt website itself, or third-party, placed by other entities whose services are used on the website, such as statistics tools.
1.3. This Policy also covers technologies similar to cookies, namely the browser's local and session storage (local storage and session storage), which perform equivalent functions of storing information on the device.
1.4. The use of cookies is subject to Directive 2002/58/EC (the ePrivacy Directive), transposed into Portuguese law by Law no. 41/2004 of 18 August and, as regards any resulting processing of personal data, to the GDPR. Cookies that are not strictly necessary are only used with the User's prior consent.
2. Cookies we use
- 2.1. The website uses two categories of cookies:
- Essential: necessary for the website to function and to record the User's preferences. These do not require consent.
- Analytics: allow website usage to be measured in aggregate. These are only used with consent and can be refused with no impact on the use of the site.
2.2. The table below lists each cookie we use, with its provider, category, purpose and duration.

2.3. The User can accept or reject analytics cookies at any time. The choice is saved and can be changed through the «Cookie Settings» panel, available on the website.

2.4. Session storage. For the calculators to work, the website uses the browser’s session storage to carry the data the User enters in one tool over to another within the same session (for example, from the quick estimate to the full calculator). This information is strictly functional, stays on the User’s device, is not used to identify the User or for analytics, and is deleted when the session ends.
3. Legal basis per category
3.1. Essential cookies. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent, under the exception provided for in the ePrivacy legislation. The processing of any personal data associated with them is based on FINOVA's legitimate interest in ensuring the operation, security and compliance of the website (article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR).
3.2. Analytics cookies. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) are based on the User's consent (article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR). Collection only takes place after acceptance: by default, and for as long as consent is not granted, measurement remains inactive. Withdrawing consent takes effect for the future, without affecting the lawfulness of collection carried out beforehand.
4. How to control cookies
4.1. On the website. At any time, the User can review and change their choice through the «Cookie Settings» panel, accepting or rejecting the analytics category.
4.2. In the browser. The User can also configure their browser to block or delete cookies. Instructions vary depending on the browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, among others) and are available on their respective help pages. There are also external cookie-management tools the User may choose to use.
4.3. Impact. Analytics cookies can be refused without affecting browsing or access to the website's features. Blocking essential cookies through the browser may, however, impair the operation of some parts of the website, namely the recording of your cookie preferences.
5. Changes to this policy
5.1. FINOVA may update this Policy whenever warranted, namely due to a change in the cookies used or a legal requirement.
5.2. The version in force is the one published on this page, stating the date of the last update. Periodic review is recommended. Where changes involve the use of new cookies subject to consent, such consent will be requested again.
