Why FINOVA

What is a mortgage broker, and why would I need one?

By Susana Vasconcelos25 March 20261 min read

A credit intermediary is a Bank of Portugal-authorised firm that bridges you and several banks, to find and compare credit offers.

What a credit intermediary is

It is a firm authorised and supervised by the Bank of Portugal that acts as a link between the client and several financial institutions, helping to find and compare credit offers.

Why you might need one

Instead of approaching bank by bank, the intermediary looks at several options at once, compares the terms on equal footing and helps you read the real impact of each offer.

What changes for you

You gain time and clarity. Two offers with similar payments can carry very different total costs — it's the detailed comparison that shows which one pays off.

Worked example

Without an intermediary, you'd have to request, gather and compare each bank's ESIS yourself. With one, you get the offers already lined up side by side, with the total cost of each in plain view. (Illustrative example.)
